Safety in Mechanical Engineering
By the very nature of their work, mechanical engineers are vulnerable to a number of safety risks. Many of these risks may be avoided by implementing a set of preventative measures.-
Mechanical Engineering
-
Mechanical engineering involves researching and developing methods for building tools, machines, and various mechanical devices and parts. As such, mechanical engineers often work with dangerous tools such as metal cutters and blow torches.
Risks
-
Key risks associated with mechanical engineering include exposure to hazardous or toxic substances, uncontrolled fires, accidents resulting from working in confined spaces, exposure to severe vibrations and high temperatures and structural failure.
Accident Prevention
-
Many of these risks may be avoided by implementing a set of preventative measures. These include having a fully stocked first aid kit on site, keeping fire extinguishers close by, always wearing protective goggles and gloves, wearing face shields when necessary, wearing ear protection when necessary and always using machinery guards.
