Free Forklift Safety Training

Tens of thousands of people are injured in forklift accidents every year, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Most employee injuries are a result of unsafe operating practices, lack of training or lack of rule enforcement. OSHA requires employers to train all appropriate employees in the safe use of a forklift.

  1. OSHA

    • OSHA offers a short free training course on Forklift Operation & Safety on their website (see References). Topics covered include the physics of the forklift, truck safety, information about how to operate and maintain a forklift, and information about refueling and recharging the truck. A 28-question test is included.

    Washington State

    • The Department of Labor and Industries in the State of Washington has published a 42-page Forklift Safety Guide, which is available on their website (see References). It includes facts about the different types of forklifts and how they work. Information on how to safely use a forklift is also provided, along with material on maintenance and how to drive in different hazardous locations. An operator's checklist is also included.

    World News

    • The World News website posts 15 videos dealing with forklift safety and training (see References). Videos range from about 45 seconds to around ten minutes in length and cover a range of topics, including forklift safety, forklift accidents, very narrow aisle forklifts and a forklift trainer's guide.
