Safety Inspection for a Lift Truck
Many workers are injured annually due to lift truck accidents or equipment failure. Conducting safety checks on these vehicles helps to identify problems early on and correct them before they become dangerous.-
Purpose
-
Lift truck tires have to be checked for excessive wear to the treads. Safety inspections for lift trucks help to ensure that the machinery is in good condition and problem-free before operating. The employer trains workers to carefully examine key parts of the equipment for wear, damage or related issues. This prevents accidents and injury from occurring while using the equipment.
Features
-
Safety and warning labels on the lift truck must be kept in good condition. The employee, with the engine shut off, inspects components of the engine, including fluid levels, possible leaks, signs of corrosion and belt condition. The worker also makes sure that all safety guards are in place, the seat belt works properly and the battery is properly charged. The functioning of the horn, lights, brakes and lifting mechanism are also checked. The tires are inspected for their overall condition and if they are filled to the right pressure level.
Other Requirements
-
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration mandates that companies train their employees on how to properly inspect lift trucks. These safety inspections must be completed before each shift begins.
