Safety Investigation Training

Safety investigations are performed when occupational accidents, injuries and illnesses occur in the workplace. Even when safety incidents are minor, they must still be investigated by the company's safety officer to make sure the incident is isolated and will not reoccur.
  1. Function

    • Safety investigation training teaches safety officers how to identify and assess safety hazards, as well as how to perform an investigation whenever a hazard is reported. Training lessons cover the procedures and steps for conducting investigations.

    Interviews

    • Safety investigation training prepares safety officers for conducting interviews of victims or witnesses, which is an important part of the investigation. Information must be gathered about the conditions of the workplace and the jobs that were performed at the time that the incident occurred. All data must be recorded and documented. Workers are required to cooperate with interviews, and can be reported to the company's human resource department if they are obstinate.

    Survey

    • The safety officer performing the investigation must survey the location of where the incident took place. Training is useful for teaching safety officers what to do when they are on the scene. For example, some types of incidents, such as those that result in structural damage, will require safety officers to take pictures of the scene. Safety officers must document their findings during their survey.
