Safety Hazard Recognition Training

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration says that employers are responsible for the safety and health of their workforce. One way to minimize or eliminate injuries and accidents is to provide safety hazard recognition training to employees.
  1. Objectives

    • According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, safety hazard recognition training programs educate employees about ways to identify workplace hazards, recognize the harmful effects that hazards can have on them and learn how to minimize or eliminate hazards by practicing safe work behaviors.

    Concepts

    • Safety hazard recognition training should give employees a well-rounded overview of their industry's key safety concepts. For example, key concepts for office environments include electrical hazards, ergonomic hazards, fire safety, health hazards, slip-and-fall hazards, hazard communication and housekeeping hazards.

    Considerations

    • Hazard reporting procedures should be included in safety hazard recognition training. Employees must know to whom they should report hazards (as well as accidents and injuries) within the organization. If a reporting process exists, map out the process clearly for staff or furnish them a copy of the reporting policy.
