What Is the Recommended Time to Flush at an Eye Wash?
Eyewash stations are commonplace at many scientific and industrial facilities and used for emergency flushing of eyes that came into contact with dust, chemicals or other contaminants.-
Features
-
Eyewash stations must be within 10 seconds' reach from stations where contamination can occur. Water must be able to flow freely from the station for a minimum of 15 minutes. The stations must be inspected regularly according to the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration.
Time Frame
-
When it comes to flushing out of contamination, it is suggested that eyes be under constant wash for a minimum of 15 minutes. The person should be taken to the station as soon after the contamination event as possible. The machine must create a stable output of water without any additional actions by the person contaminated.
Warning
-
Eyewash stations are only the first step in a total first aid regimen for contamination of the eyes. Medical personnel should be contacted immediately, and any additional first aid for burns or other injuries should be done in as soon as possible.
