Utility Safety Programs
Jobs in the utility field put workers in close contact with hazardous materials and situations on a daily basis. An organized effort on the part of businesses owners and employees has resulted in a strict set of safety standards and guidelines that must be enforced at the work site. For workers to adhere to safety guidelines, they must first know what those standards are. Utility safety-training programs can provide both workers and businesses owners with the information they need to maintain an accident-free work zone.-

The Utility Safety and Ops Leadership Network (USOLN) is a membership organization that works to create a more safe and productive work environment for workers in the utility fields. USOLN puts out a magazine, "Incident Prevention," which features articles focused on job-related hazards, including arc flash from welding, grounding methods, work zone management and safe equipment operations. A certification program, Certified Utility Safety Professionals (CUSP), that's offered through USOLN provides a national safety standard of utility safety knowledge by providing thorough training and requiring that candidates pass a CUSP examination to become certified. Applications can be downloaded on the USOLN website.
