Eye Shield Technology

Eye injuries that require medical attention occur at a rate of about 2000 per day in the United States. Eye safety constitutes an important aspect of a variety of different professions.
  1. Goggles

    • Goggles may be worn by motorcyclists to prevent small rocks and other debris from damaging the eyes.

Goggles fit the face and form a protective seal around the eyes. The protective seal prevents unwanted material and heat from entering the eyes. Goggles are appropriate for those working with high heat, handling chemicals that can damage the eyes, or running the risk of small objects puncturing the eye.

    Spectacles

    • Spectacles are generally more comfortable than other forms of eye shield technology.

Spectacles resemble normal corrective eye glasses and may provide protection from debris and heat. Side shields are necessary when faced with the risk of debris entering the eyes from the sides. Wearers may also outfit spectacles with corrective lenses, lenses designed to filter light, or lenses that protect against optical radiation.

    Face Shields

    • Face shields can protect the face from high heat and hot sparks.

Face shields protect the eyes and face by covering a large area with a transparent material--including glass, plastic, mesh wire or heat-reflective material--to see through. Face shields may include helmets in case of hazards from above and adjustable straps to increase fit and comfort.
