Hazard Communication & Bloodborne Pathogens Training

In order to educate your employees about the potential dangers in their workplace, it is imperative to provide them with hazard communication and bloodborne pathogens training on a regular basis. These standards are determined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and must be followed by employers and employees to ensure the highest standards of protection. However, this only applies to employees that work daily with hazardous materials, possibly dangerous equipment, or in situations that could be potentially life-threatening.
  1. Model Exposure Control Plan

    • Every business that falls under OSHA guidelines of protection must have a model exposure control plan which describes, in detail, how employers and employees will react in the event of an emergency. This can include something as minor as a scrape or as major as an event that leads to hospitalization. The employer must not only draft a plan, but share it with his employees to ensure that they are all aware of its specifications.

    Implementation

    • One of the key components of the exposure control plan is how to implement safety procedures should an emergency arise. This includes educating your employees on where safety supplies are located, how to use them, and the appropriate person or people to call in the case of an emergency.

    Labels

    • Part of this training includes how to read a label, the information that must be printed on it, and what dangers it may pose. In certain workplaces labels may bear different colors and symbols that represent these dangers, all of which must be understood and learned by the employee before usage.

    Hepatitis B

    • As per OSHA guidelines, all employees must be given the option to receive a free Hepatitis B vaccination within 10 days of being advised to do so at their training. This is offered in conjunction with teaching them about the advantages of the vaccination, how it is administered, and where it can be located. However, employees can reject the vaccination if they do not want to receive it.
