Safety Induction Procedures

Occupational health and safety is essential to the well-being of all employees. The safety induction process informs employees of their responsibility to adhere to safe practices at all times. Each employee is responsible for contributing to a safe work environment. Organizations should discuss safety induction procedures with all employees, personnel or students when applicable.

  1. In Case of Emergency

    • The safety induction covers emergency measures. All individuals must know the location of emergency exits and supplies, including fire extinguishers and first-aid kits. During induction, employees learn how to use emergency equipment and sound alarms when necessary. The induction process also informs departments or groups of any assignments to a particular exit area or procedure.

    Safety of Others

    • Safety induction teaches individuals how to look out for the safety of others. This includes demonstrating proper use of equipment or hazardous substances and chemicals in designated areas or departments. Individuals should not willfully place others in a dangerous situation, and should endeavor to prevent accidents at all cost.

    Reports

    • Safety induction procedures ensure the training of all new, relocating and transferring employees on how to report safety hazards and accidents. During induction, individuals also learn how to report malfunctioning equipment or any release of hazardous chemicals or substances.
