The North Carolina Department of Labor is responsible under North Carolina state law for the implementation of the North Carolina Safety and Health Act governing workplace safety and health standards.-
Bureaus

The North Carolina Department of Labor created five bureaus to implement North Carolina’s occupational safety laws. These bureaus inspect and ensure compliance with occupational safety regulations. They include: the Agricultural Safety & Health Bureau; Compliance Bureau; Consultative Services Bureau; Education Training & Technical Administration; and the Planning, Statistics and Information Management Bureau.
Complaints

North Carolina’s occupational safety regulations allow workers to file anonymous complaints about safety and health in the workplace. Workers should file complaints with the North Carolina Department of Labor. Complaints can lead to inspections and possible penalties for the employer.
Appeals

The Safety and Health Review Board of North Carolina reports that it was created to allow independent appeals against sanctions imposed under North Carolina occupational safety law. Sanctions include fines and citations.
