Types of Safety Hazards
Safety hazards are present all around us. Proper recognition of the potential threat posed by these risks and the proper and timely identification of these threats is crucial to avoiding injury or even death. Some safety hazards are obvious and easily recognized, while others can go unnoticed until an accident or injury occurs. Recognizing these hazards must be taught, and personnel reminded to be vigilant in their safety practices and reporting.-
Falls, Trips and Slips

A leading cause of injury in the workplace are slips trips and falls. These hazards are often caused by debris, improperly placed items or spilled liquids. It is crucial that all equipment be properly stored, walkways cleared of trash and debris and all spills cleaned up immediately. Wet floors should be identified with signs or other markings. Steps should be marked off with yellow paint or tape. Extension cords and hoses should be properly stored away from walkways and work platforms.
Back Injury

Improper lifting techniques result in a large number of debilitating back injuries. Most of these can be avoided by using proper techniques, available equipment or by asking for assistance. If the load is heavy or awkward, use a team lift. If equipment is available, such as an electric pallet jack, it should be utilized. A great many injuries result from straining to lift, pull, push or move heavy loads or objects. By using proper techniques, many of these injuries can be eliminated.
Machinery Safety

Forklift or machine roll over is a major cause of fatalities. Even more workers are injured or killed when stuck by a forklift or other piece of equipment. Using heavy machinery without the proper guards in place, or by bypassing safety features, can result in serious or even fatal injuries. All operators must be properly trained and authorized to drive a forklift or use any machinery. Poor or inadequate training is another leading cause of injury in which machinery or other equipment is involved. Proper training programs can eliminate many workplace injuries.
PPE: Personal Protective Equipment

Many work environments contain hazardous materials that must be respected. By not using or wearing the proper PPE, workers risk hearing loss, loss of eyesight, chemical burns, cuts, abrasions, and in certain instances, communicable diseases.
