Construction Site Safety Requirements

Constructions sites are carefully regulated and checked to ensure that they meet worker and building code safety requirements. Safety audits are conducted on a regular basis by not only site managers and supervisors but also by local government offices. This is to make sure that not only the building and workers but that the surrounding areas are safe for the public.
  1. Access

    • The construction site must be easily to access by workers. This means that all entrances and exits to the property as well as foot paths through the construction must be clearly marked or labeled. Workers should be able to move through the site and to their designated work area easily and should be given enough space to work comfortably without compromising their safety. All access points should also warn of construction in progress and note that authorized access is required to be on the site. The site should be able to be closed to public access during non-working hours.

    Tool Safety

    • All tools used on a construction site should be routinely inspected to ensure that they are working properly. They should be able to be safely stored in work areas when not in use and should also have all necessary safety switches or guards on them. Tools that are found to be missing a safety guard or that are not in good repair should be removed from the site immediately. Any equipment that cannot be safely stored in the work area should be brought down to a storage area once work is finished for the day.

    Protective Equipment

    • All access points to the construction site should clearly warn of the construction going on in the area and note what protective equipment, such as hard hats or safety goggles, are required while on-site. Anyone found on the construction site without the proper protective equipment should either be required to wear it or should be immediately removed from the site. Very often construction sites can have volatile elements despite adherence to safety rules, such as materials or equipment that can fall from large heights, potentially injuring someone who is not wearing safety equipment.
