Daily Safety Audit Checklist

When working in a high stress or highly dangerous position, it sometimes becomes necessary to conduct a daily safety audit. Doing so helps ensure that your working environment is a safe, healthy place and that any equipment or machinery you use is in good working condition. Many people, such as mechanics, construction workers and industrial workers, conduct a daily safety audit because the items that they come into contact with every day, such as heavy machinery, can pose a safety risk if not properly inspected and maintained on a daily basis.
  1. Workspace

    • Make sure that your workspace is neat and free from all debris. There should be no loose wires or cables. You should be able to store all tools or other machinery safely and without assistance. Your workspace should be easily accessible to you and you should have enough room to work and maneuver machinery comfortably. Workers should not only check to make sure that their work spaces are clean and neat before work but should also take time to straighten them after work is completed for the day to help prevent any accidents.

    Protective Equipment

    • Note whether or not there is any personal protective equipment necessary for your position. Make sure that you have it every morning before beginning work for the day and that you are using it properly. If anything becomes worn out or damaged during the workday, replace it immediately to help avoid malfunction or injury. Store you equipment in a safe place after work where it is easily accessible to you prior to beginning work the next day. Ensure that all equipment meets the requirements set forth by your employer before using it for work.

    Health

    • Report any health conditions directly to your supervisor. This includes any injuries that are related to an on-the-job accident as well as any illnesses from which you may suffer. Notify your employer immediately if your doctor has prescribed any new medications for you that may limit your ability to safely function in your position, such as cold medicines that may cause drowsiness, as these can be a potential safety hazard to you and your fellow employees.
