Workplace Safety Procedures for an Office

Workplace safety procedures can go a long way to ensure staff members remain safe in the event of an emergency situation. Some safety tips can also help prevent a crisis from occurring, making it important for all employees to be aware of a few simple safety tips. With some guidance and know-how, it is easy to remain safe in the workplace
  1. Emergency Equipment

    • Having some items on hand can be helpful in ensuring office safety. A basic first aid kit with bandages, ointment and medicines should be standard in any office. Extra equipment like a defibrillator can be installed in the event an employee has a major health issue. If a defibrillator is installed, a number of employees should undergo special training on how to use it. Most hospitals run training for this purpose.

    Fire Safety

    • Random fire drills should be run in an office to make sure all staff members know what to do in the event of a fire. A fire leader should be chosen to carry a master list of all employees, so names can be checked off during the drill to make sure all employees have exited the building. Safe exit paths should also be established based on where each employee sits, to make sure they know where their nearest escape is located.

    Choking

    • Make sure a few office employees are trained in the Heimlich maneuver in case a choking incident occurs. Employees can take simple training courses at the local hospital, and all staff can watch a training video to understand basic choking assistance moves. A poster with steps to take in case of choking should also be placed in areas like a break room or cafeteria, where such accidents are most likely to occur.
