Heat Gun Safety
A heat gun is useful to painters and plumbers alike. The heat from the gun helps heat up paint, making it easier to remove. A heat gun also is useful in melting solder and flux, an acid paste that helps to draw the solder into the joint when plumbing, or helping to loosen difficult pipes. When using the heat gun, you need to be aware of how to hold and operate it safely.-
Extension Cord
-
An extension cord may be necessary for you to reach your work. However, because of the power the heat gun draws, make sure you use an extension cord that is rated for 10 amps.
Distance From Work
-
When you are working with a heat gun, make sure to keep it 6 to 12 inches away from your work. If you keep the gun too close, you can run the risk of the heat gun overheating, or worse yet, bursting into flame.
Air Grills
-
Air grills located on the heat gun allow the gun to stay cooler. If you block the vents, you can run the risk of overheating your heat gun or setting it on fire.
Off Switch
-
Always turn the heat gun's switch to the off position before you set the gun down.
Flammable Material
-
Do not work with a heat gun near flammable material, for you run the risk of setting it on fire.
