Site Safety Inspection Checklist

Site safety inspections are done on a regular basis through a construction or manufacturing area while it is in use. These inspections are designed to help managers to identify and correct safety hazards before they cause an accident or injury. They also assist management with making sure that their workers follow the health and safety program and to note which elements of the program work as expected and which ones are not as effective when in practice in the the workplace.
  1. Site Rules

    • When conducting a site safety inspection, a part of the checklist should revolve around the site safety rules. Employers should note whether or not site safety rules have been properly documented and distributed by supervisors to employees. The checklist should also help to identify whether workers have been trained to use these safety rules and if they are adhering to them while working on-site. Another segment of this is to note whether or not supervisors are overseeing the project adequately to ensure that all safety rules are being followed.

    Equipment

    • Employers should check to make sure that all on-site equipment being used is up to current safe operating standards. This includes whether there are any missing safety guards on the equipment and whether it functions properly for safe use by employees. Employers should also note the employees utilizing the equipment and whether they have been properly trained to do so, or if they are certified on the equipment as required by law.

    Routes

    • Another part of the site safety audit should include the routes that workers take to and from as well as through the site. These routes should be clearly marked and should be kept free of materials and debris. Routes should be routinely checked for structural integrity to ensure that workers can pass through safely. Areas that are restricted or off limits to the public or some employees should also be marked. All routes into and out of the site should be secured during non-working hours to prevent unauthorized access.
