OSHA Colored Tape Requirements
Colored tape with different codes and patterns is needed to alert workers in construction areas about potential dangers and instruct them in safety measures. The same standards apply for non-construction work places to alert workers to hazards. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has defined a set of tape color and pattern standards for specific situations.-
Red

Red is used to identify fire protection equipment. Red also signifies danger. Items that should be identified with red include containers of flammable liquids, barricades and obstructions. Red also signifies stop points.
Yellow

Yellow is used for signifying that caution is needed. Yellow is also used to mark physical hazards. Potential hazards include dangers of falling, stumbling or becoming caught or trapped.
Tape Patterns

Warning tapes with red and white are used for fire protection equipment. Black and white tape is used for marking aisles. Yellow and magenta tape signifies radiation hazards. Green and white tape is for safety and first aid equipment. Blue and white tape is used to designate defective equipment. Orange and white tape is used for traffic and caution warnings. Black and yellow tape marks physical hazards.
