Poor Workplace Safety Practices
Safety in the workplace is important to make sure that everyone on the premises is working in a safe environment with the expectation that they will not be injured. Poor workplace safety practices can only lead to injury of an employee, which can result in loss of work or worse.-
Exits And Aisles
-
Aisles and exit paths should be clear of clutter and debris. Blocked exits and cluttered isles make the work area harder to maneuver around and if there would be a need to exit the work area quickly, the blocked isles and exit routes can pose danger to the workers. All exit routes and isles must be free of any obstructions.
Damaged Equipment
-
Working with equipment that is damaged or in poor working condition poses a threat to the employees working with the equipment. Any equipment that has bad wiring or is not fixed as needed can result in injury or failed production. All equipment that is used for any production should be in good working condition or it should be taken out of service until fixed correctly.
Lighting And Housekeeping
-
The proper lighting should always be used in the workplace. If the lighting is poor, workers cannot see what they are doing and it can result in eye strain for the employees that are trying to see. Housekeeping practices should be in place. A clean and safe work area is easier and safer to work in than one that is dirty and unkempt.
Storage
-
Proper storage of equipment, chemicals and safety equipment is needed. A safe environment for working in is one that has storage for cleaning materials and work materials. Keeping chemicals out in the open can cause problems for employees and possible chemical reactions if the chemicals would spill and mix together. Equipment that is kept in a storage area does not get lost and is not sitting on the floor where it can be tripped over and damaged.
Poor Employee Training
-
Proper training for employees is important. Employees should be taught good housekeeping, where to store items, where the exit routes are located, how to use equipment and what to do in case of an emergency. Asking an employee to work in any area without knowing the proper safety precautions can lead to injury for the employee and those around him.
