OSHA Training Requirements for Aerial Lifts
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires safety training for operating aerial lifts. Section 1926.453 has been written specifically for aerial lift requirements. Several sections of 29 CFR outline general safety training requirements.-

This section provides guidance for equipment construction, movement, safety and training for aerial lifts. Paragraph (b)(2)(ii) states “Only authorized persons shall operate an aerial lift.”

This section outlines definitions. Paragraph (d) describes an authorized person as “a person approved or assigned by the employer to perform a specific type of duty or duties or to be at a specific location or locations at the jobsite.”

When aerial lifts are to be used around an electrical hazard, such as electrical lines, the operator must be trained in accordance with section 1926.269. Paragraph (p)(4) describes this area.
