1
Remove any jewelry you are wearing and any loose clothing such as a scarf. Wedding rings may be left on since they are smooth, depending on the policy of the clean room. You may be able to tape over rings if the clean room allows.
-
2
Remove everything from your pockets, such as wallets, cigarettes and lighters.
-
3
Take off makeup. You may want to use a gentle skin lotion.
-
4
Put on the bouffant hat or hair net and a beard cover if you have facial hair. This assures hair or particles from your scalp will not contaminate the clean room. Some clean rooms require you to put on a hood that covers your hair, ears, neck and shoulders.
-
5
Cover your shoes with footwear coverings or clean room footwear. Your shoelaces should be tucked in the coverings.
-
6
Wash your hands. Where and how you wash your hands depends on the particular clean room, but most require thorough hand washing and use of a disinfect. You may be asked to put on gloves that are worn when you put on your gown.
-
7
Unfold the gown without it coming in contact with the floor. Separate the first leg you will put on from the rest of the gown. The rest of the gown should be held in your hands by the corners.
-
8
Cover yourself with the gown slowly by releasing the next arm or leg. It is easier to put on the legs first and then the arms.
-
9
Zip the gown to the top. Use the snaps at the ankles and wrists if the gown has them. Make sure the gown is not dragging on the floor and that there are no loose parts.
-
10
Take off the gloves you have been wearing. Wash your hands again with soap. You may be asked to disinfect them again. Depending on the clean room, you may be asked to put on powder-free gloves and protective eyeglasses.
-
11
Check yourself in a mirror to make sure your have properly put on the gown. Make sure your body is completely covered and nothing is on the gown or any of your outer layer. Also check to make sure the gown is completely zipped and is not touching the floor. A clean room attendant may be present to assist you.
