Safety Awareness Topics

Safety awareness is the foundation of any safety program. Awareness training teaches employees to recognize common safety hazards and how to take proper precautions to reduce accidents and injuries in the workplace.
  1. Hazard Recognition

    • Understanding hazards helps workers perform jobs safely. Train the employee to review job safety procedures, identify unsafe acts, correct potential hazards and take responsibility for his own safety and that of his co-workers.

    Near Misses

    • Near misses are unsafe acts which did not, but could have, resulted in an accident. Teach employees to report these incidents, and involve them in investigating and recommending a corrective action for the near miss.

    Focus on the Task

    • Teach employees to stay focused on the task by following safe work practices and avoiding shortcuts.

    Continuous Training

    • Safety awareness training should be ongoing. Continually evaluate new machines, procedures and business needs for potential risks. Change safety standards to reflect new risks and communicate this to employees.

    Form a Safety Committee

    • A safety committee involves employees and creates an interest in safety and health. The committee promotes awareness of safety throughout the organization by developing safety goals and educating others through their actions and examples.
