1
Assess the object. Before beginning to lift, determine how heavy it is. Note whether or not the item has handles or grips.
-
2
Plan your path. Before lifting the object, plan the route you will take to get from point A to point B. Take this time to move any obstacles out of your way and clear the path if necessary.
-
3
Stand close to the item that you are going to lift. Center yourself in the middle of the object and place your feet apart the same width as your shoulders.
-
4
Keep your back straight and bend at the knees while you squat down to grasp the object, using any available handles or grips. While grasping the object, stand straight up.
-
5
Walk slowly to your destination while keeping you back straight. If needed, place the object down and rest. Once you have reached your destination, bend at your knees and slowly place the object down.
