Board Planer Safety Rules
Board planers are large machines that cut boards and remove unwanted material from the surface of a board. Because these are large cutting machines, it is important for users to understand basic safety rules concerning the use of board planers.-
Stand Clear
-
Make sure that your hands are a minimum of 3 inches from the infeed and outfeed areas of the planer.
Where to Stand
-
Board planer operators should stand to the side of the machine to avoid being injured by any pieces of wood that may splinter off or kick back from the cutting area of the planer.
Safety Glasses
-
Operators should wear safety glasses at all times when using a board planer to prevent wood particles and splinters from entering their eyes.
Check the Wood
-
Make sure that the wood is free of any foreign material before putting it in the board planer to help prevent wood splintering and shattering.
Two Foot Perimeter
-
Maintain a 2-foot perimeter on all sides of the board planer when in use. Keep the 2-foot area surrounding the machine clear of other workers and materials to prevent injury.
