To prevent injury to your back or spinal cord, when lifting heavy objects, bend from your knees, in a squatting position and keep your back straight. When carrying the item, hold it close to your body.

Wear comfortable shoes that are non-skid. Wearing a safe shoes can protect you from falling and causing injury. Don't slouch when you are walking, keep your back straight.

There are times when you may have to move a heavy object. Use good body mechanics, to prevent injury. Keep your feet apart and use your body to do the pushing.

When sitting for a long period of time, use something to support your back, such as a soft pillow. If you sit around a desk most of your day, do little stretching exercises to prevent soreness of the muscles.

When standing for long periods of time, ease the pressure from your back by placing one leg on a stool.

When turning around, avoid doing so abruptly. If good body mechanics is not practiced, you can twist your back causing strain to your lower back.
