Do you have to fast before an MRI?
In most cases, you do not need to fast before an MRI. However, there are some exceptions.
You may be asked to fast before an MRI if:
* You are having an MRI of your abdomen or pelvis. This is because food and drink can interfere with the images of these organs.
* You are having an MRI with contrast dye. Contrast dye can cause nausea and vomiting, so fasting can help to reduce these side effects.
If you are not sure whether or not you need to fast before your MRI, be sure to ask your doctor.
Here are some general tips for preparing for an MRI:
* Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.
* Remove all metal objects from your body, such as jewelry, piercings, and watches.
* Tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions or implants that may interfere with the MRI.
* Arrive at your appointment early so you have time to fill out any necessary paperwork and get settled in.
