You just pierced your nipple so what should you do?
Aftercare instructions for a nipple piercing:
1. Leave your piercing alone!
Avoid twisting or pulling on your jewelry, as this can cause irritation and damage the healing piercing. Try not to sleep on your stomach, as this can also put pressure on your piercing and cause discomfort.
2. Clean your piercing twice daily.
Use a mild antibacterial soap and warm water to gently cleanse the area around your piercing, removing any crust or discharge. Be sure to rinse thoroughly with water afterward and pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not use harsh chemicals, alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide, as these can damage your piercing.
3. Apply a sterile saline solution to your piercing.
After cleaning, spray your piercing with a sterile saline solution to help keep it clean and moisturized. You can find sterile saline solutions at most drugstores.
4. Avoid submerging your piercing in water.
This includes taking baths, swimming, and using hot tubs. Soaking your piercing can introduce bacteria and lead to infection. If your piercing does get wet, be sure to clean it thoroughly afterward.
5. Avoid wearing tight clothing.
Tight clothing can put pressure on your piercing and cause irritation. Wear loose, comfortable clothing made from natural fibers, such as cotton.
6. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals.
Harsh chemicals, such as those found in cleaning products and jewelry, can irritate your piercing and cause damage. Be sure to wear gloves when cleaning or handling harsh chemicals, and avoid getting them on your piercing.
7. Watch for signs of infection.
Signs of infection include redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, discharge, and increased warmth around your piercing. If you notice any of these signs, please see a doctor or piercer immediately.
8. Keep an eye on your piercing.
Make sure to keep an eye on your piercing for any changes in appearance or discomfort. If you have any concerns, please contact your doctor or piercer.
