Why do breast hurt a few days before mentrul period?
There is a change in hormone levels that occurs a few days before menstruation. This change causes the breasts to become engorged with fluid and milk, which can make them tender, painful, and swollen. This condition is known as cyclical mastalgia or premenstrual breast pain. It is a common symptom of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).
The exact cause of cyclical mastalgia is not fully understood. It is thought that the hormonal changes that occur during the menstrual cycle cause the breasts to retain water and sodium, which can lead to swelling and tenderness. Additionally, the increased levels of estrogen and progesterone hormones can cause the breast tissue to become more sensitive to pain.
Cyclical mastalgia can range in severity from mild discomfort to severe pain. The pain may be felt in one or both breasts and can be localized to a specific area or spread throughout the entire breast. It may also be accompanied by other PMS symptoms, such as mood swings, fatigue, headaches, and abdominal cramps.
Treatment for cyclical mastalgia typically involves lifestyle modifications and over-the-counter pain relievers. Some effective strategies for managing breast pain include:
1. Wearing a well-fitting bra with good support.
2. Applying warm compresses to the breasts.
3. Taking over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
4. Reducing caffeine and alcohol intake.
5. Engaging in regular exercise to help balance hormone levels.
6. Getting enough sleep and managing stress.
In severe cases, a doctor may prescribe medication or recommend other treatments to relieve the pain.
If you are experiencing severe or persistent breast pain, it is important to see a doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions and to get appropriate treatment.
