Why is breastfeeding in public seen as obscene?

There are a few reasons why breastfeeding in public is seen as obscene by some people.

* Historical and cultural factors. In many cultures, breastfeeding in public has been traditionally seen as inappropriate or immodest. This is likely due to several factors, including religious beliefs, societal norms, and the sexualization of women's bodies.

* Lack of education. Some people simply don't know that breastfeeding is a natural and healthy way to feed a baby. They may mistakenly believe that it's indecent or harmful to breastfeed in public.

* Negative media portrayals. The media often portrays breastfeeding in a negative light. For example, women who breastfeed in public are sometimes depicted as being sexually promiscuous or neglectful of their children. This can contribute to the stigma surrounding breastfeeding in public.

* Personal discomfort. Some people may simply feel uncomfortable seeing a woman breastfeeding in public. They may find it intrusive or embarrassing, or they may be worried about their children seeing it.

Despite the stigma, breastfeeding in public is not illegal in most places. In fact, several states and cities have passed laws that protect a woman's right to breastfeed in public.
