What age is recommended for a mammogram?
The American Cancer Society recommends that women with average risk of breast cancer start annual screening mammograms at age 40. Some organizations, such as the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), recommend starting mammograms at age 45. Women with a personal or family history of breast cancer may need to start screening earlier, and those with a very high risk may need to have breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in addition to mammograms.
