How long does a TURP procedure take to recover from?

Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) is a surgical procedure to remove obstructive prostate tissue. The length of time it takes to recover from a TURP procedure can vary from person to person, but the following is a general timeline:

Immediately after the procedure: You will likely stay in the hospital for a day or two after your procedure. During this time, you may experience some discomfort, pain, and bleeding. You will be given medication to manage these symptoms.

The first week: You will likely feel tired and need to rest for the first week or so after your procedure. You may experience some pain and swelling, as well as difficulty urinating. You may need to take pain relievers and antibiotics to manage these symptoms.

Weeks 2-4: You should start to feel better during the second and third weeks after your procedure. You may still experience some discomfort and difficulty urinating, but you should be able to return to most of your normal activities.

Month 2-3: By the second and third month after your procedure, you should have fully recovered and should be able to resume all of your normal activities.

It is important to note that everyone heals at their own pace, so it is important to listen to your body and follow your doctor's instructions. If you have any concerns or questions, be sure to contact your doctor.
