What is salpingostomy?
Salpingostomy is a surgical procedure that is used to treat blocked or damaged fallopian tubes. This can be done for a variety of reasons such as:- Reversing tubal ligations
- Treating ectopic pregnancy
- Removing endometriosis or scar tissue
- Unblocking the fallopian tubes as part of infertility treatments
During a salpingostomy, the surgeon will remove any obstructions or damage to the fallopian tube and then reopen it so that the egg can travel through it freely. The surgery is usually performed laparoscopically, which means that it is done through small incisions in the abdomen.
Salpingostomy can be a successful procedure in improving fertility, but the success rate depends on a number of factors including the cause of the blockage or damage, the age of the patient, and the overall health of the patient.
