Difference between stunt and bypass surgery of heart?

Stent

A stent procedure can be used to widen a narrowed blood vessel, such as a coronary artery, and improve blood flow to specific areas of the heart or body.

A stent is a small mesh tube inserted into the narrowed artery during a minimally invasive procedure called angioplasty, often referred to as a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). During the procedure, a balloon is used to open up the narrowed artery, and the stent is then inserted to keep it open and improve blood flow. Stent procedures are typically performed in order to alleviate angina, shortness of breath, and other symptoms of coronary artery disease. The procedure typically involves inserting a catheter with a deflated balloon into the narrowed artery and inflating it to widen the vessel. The stent is then inserted into the artery and remains in place permanently, supporting the vessel wall and preventing it from narrowing again.

Bypass surgery

A coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is a surgical procedure that creates a new pathway for blood to bypass a narrowed or blocked coronary artery. Surgeons take a healthy blood vessel from another part of the body, usually a leg or chest, and graft it to the blocked coronary artery. This allows blood to flow around the blocked artery and restore blood flow to the heart muscle. CABG is often used to treat severe coronary artery disease, especially when multiple arteries are narrowed or blocked.

The main differences between stent procedure and bypass surgery of the heart are:

- Invasive nature: Stent procedure is a minimally invasive procedure, while bypass surgery is a major surgical procedure.

- Procedure time: Stent procedures usually take a few hours, while bypass surgery can take several hours to complete.

- Recovery time: Recovery from a stent procedure is usually much quicker compared to bypass surgery. Stent procedures typically involve an overnight hospital stay, while bypass surgery requires several days of hospitalization and a longer recovery period.

- Long-term outcomes: Bypass surgery is generally considered to be a more durable solution compared to stent procedures, with lower chances of the artery narrowing again. However, stent procedures may be preferable for certain individuals, such as those who are at high risk for complications from bypass surgery or have only a single blocked artery.
