How to Get Rid of Deep Lines and Folds Around the Mouth
As people age, unwanted wrinkles and lines appear on the face due to a depletion of collagen, which keeps skin smooth and healthy looking. Wrinkles appear the most often around the eyes, and especially around the mouth area. There are many different tactics that one can take to try to slow down the aging process and smooth wrinkles. One can use semisurigcal procedures, or a variety of anti-aging creams.Things You'll Need
- Doctor (for surgical procedures)
- Ice or ice packs
- Anti-aging cream
Instructions
-
Injections
-
1
Go to the dermatologist, and talk to your doctor about what procedure might be the best and safest according to your age and skin type.
-
2
According to your age, skin type, and personal preference, the doctor can recommend semisurgical procedures such as botox and dermal fillers, in which collagen or restylane is injected with needles into the wrinkled skin areas.
-
3
Make an appointment with your doctor. Make sure the appointment is on a day when you don't have many things to do; it is best to go home for an hour after the appointment to ice the skin to let the skin's redness dissipate.
-
4
When getting botox or dermal fillers, relax the face as the doctor injects a series of shots into the affected areas.
-
5
After the procedure, place ice packs on the injected areas to reduce redness or swelling.
Laser Treatments
-
6
Talk to your dermatologist to make sure that you are eligible for laser treatments to eliminate mouth wrinkles.
-
7
If eligible, make an appointment on a day when you can go home for a bit afterwards to ice the face to reduce redness or swelling. Also remember not to wear makeup (i.e., face foundation) on the day of the appointment.
-
8
Relax the face as the doctor, or doctor assistants, press the laser against the wrinkled areas. It will feel like a very quick shot of pain, similar to slapping a rubber band against the skin.
-
9
After the procedure, use ice packs to reduce the redness or swelling on the affected areas.
Anti-Aging Creams
-
10
To go the non-semisurgical (and no pain) route, many anti-aging creams can be purchased. Purchase an anti-wrinkle cream that has retinol, which is a chemical ingredient that will bring some fullness back to the skin.
-
11
After purchasing the cream, apply it twice daily, in the morning and at night, for the first 30 days.
-
12
Apply it to the face by first taking off makeup, washing the face, and thoroughly drying it. Then take a dime-sized amount of cream and gently massage it into the wrinkled areas.
-
13
After the first 30 days, apply the cream once daily, preferably before bed when no makeup is on the face.
