How to Lose Weight before Having a Tummy Tuck Surgery

A tummy tuck is an operation that tightens up your stomach muscles and loose skin. It is not a substitute for weight loss, but rather is a supplement to it. The fat loss is up to you, but the tummy tuck can make your new stomach look more appealing.

An important point to note is that you should not "pre-empt" your weight loss with a tummy tuck. If you predict yourself reaching your goal weight in three months, get the tummy tuck then, not now. The reason for this is because for a tummy tuck to be successful you need to have a stable weight. This means no gains or losses.

Instructions

    • 1

Speak to your surgeon and establish how much you need to weigh for the tummy tuck.

    • 2

Write down everything you eat for a week, weighing yourself at the beginning and end of that week. If your weight has not changed, this is your maintenance level--eating this amount will result in neither gain nor loss.

    • 3

Cut at least 500 calories a day out of your diet. Go through your food journal and find places that can be cut. If, for example, you usually eat three eggs in the morning, cut back to two eggs--an instant savings of 75 calories.

    • 4

Avoid any white carbohydrate in favor of its brown counterpart. Whole grain bread, whole grain rice and whole wheat pasta are all good options.

    • 5

Speak to a personal trainer about a strength training program. Strength training builds your muscles, burns calories and speeds up your metabolism when you are not exercising.

    • 6

Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day in general. If you are not weight training on a day, swim, run or perform some other kind of exercise that works your whole body and gets your heart moving.
