Lipo Effects

As with any surgical operation, it is important to know the potential side effects that could occur. If you are contemplating liposuction, you will most likely not experience any adverse effects, but there are several you should know about prior to your operation. Knowing these effects ahead of time may help aid your decision to go through with the operation or not.
  1. Discoloration

    • On average, 4 percent of liposuction patients experience a brown discoloration on the skin that has been worked on. The discoloration occurs due to hemosiderin, which is an iron material in cells that are produced when your red cells break down. This side effect is most common with inner thigh liposuction.

    Asymmetry

    • Three percent of liposuction patients experience asymmetry or unevenness over the areas that have been worked on. For most people, this does not require additional surgery, but there are some cases where additional surgery is necessary.

    Nerve Damage

    • Six percent of liposuction patients experience nerve damage. Nerve damage can occur during liposuction due to the outer nerve cells becoming stripped during the surgery. If this happens, the resulting feeling is that of pins and needles and sometimes aching pains. Most nerve damage recovers fully on its own over time.

    Lumps and Texture Changes

    • Four percent of liposuction patients also experience small lumps and texture changes to their skin due to fat fibrosis and necrosis. These lumps are small pieces of fat that sit just below the skin and can cause pain and discomfort.
