Types of Mini or Full Tummy Tucks

The tummy tuck is a general term used for the medical procedure abdominoplasty. Abdominoplasty is the removal of excessive fat and skin along the abdominal area. There are various types of abdominoplasty that will help tighten or rid the stomach area of wrinkled or baggy skin. Abdominoplasty procedures are also effective in removing stretch marks between the pubic and belly button region.
  1. Traditional Tummy Tuck

    • The traditional tummy tuck, also known as a full abdominoplasty, is where the abdominal wall muscles are tightened. This procedure is done by pulling the excess tummy skin down and detaching the extra skin. The traditional tummy tuck results in a flatter abdomen due to the excessive skin and fat being remove from the middle and lower portions of the abdomen. The traditional tummy tuck covers the entire abdominal area, including moving the belly button to make sure the abdomen keeps a natural look.

    Mini Tummy Tuck

    • The mini tummy tuck, also known as the partial abdominoplasty, is less extensive then the traditional tummy tuck. The mini tuck involves the removal of excessive skin in small areas of the stomach. While the traditional tummy tuck targets the entire abdomen region, the mini tummy tuck targets smaller trouble areas. During a mini tummy tuck, the abdominal muscles may or may not be tightened and the belly button is not moved. The mini tummy tuck is geared more for people who are not significantly overweight and closer to their target weight goals.

    Endoscopic Tummy Tuck

    • Endoscopic tummy tuck procedures are done when only a small amount of loose skin or fat tissue needs to be removed. During an endoscopic tummy tuck, small incisions are made and the procedure is done using small endoscopic tools. Endoscopic tummy tuck surgery results in small scars, minimal swelling, bruising and bleeding that improve during the healing time.

    Panniculectomy

    • Panniculectomy is used normally on large amounts of excessive skin that hang below the belt line. This area is called the pannus, or referred to as an abdominal apron. The excessive skin can cause discomfort and interfere with daily activities such as walking and standing. Panniculectomy removes only the excessive skin from the pannus area and does not tighten stomach muscles or reposition the belly button on the abdomen.

    Dermatolipectomy

    • Dermatolipectomy is a procedure that removes only the excessive skin. Abdominal muscles are not tightened during a dermatolipectomy and the belly button is not repositioned. This procedure is usually done when the muscle tone is good and only loose skin is a problem.
