How to Recover From Chin Liposuction

Liposuction on the chin is performed to remove excess fat that can make the area under your chin appear saggy. This procedure can help you look younger and fresher. Chin liposuction is considered cosmetic surgery and can be done in an outpatient facility, though some patients will need to stay overnight, depending on the anesthesia that is used. The surgeon uses a slender tube to suck out fatty deposits, giving your chin a more contoured look. Recovery time is different for every patient but generally takes four to six weeks.

Take your pain medicine as prescribed. Speak with your surgeon about which pain medication is right for you.

    • 2

Wear your protective support garment at all times for the first week. After that, you will only need to wear it at night for the next four to six weeks.

    • 3

Avoid any strenuous activities that may cause injury or strain to the chin area. Gentle movement is encouraged for the first week to improve circulation.

    • 4

Take enough time off of work or school to allow for recovery. Speak with your doctor about how long you should wait before returning to work, school and regular activities.

    • 5

Place an ice pack on the area to help with discomfort and swelling. If you are wearing a support garment, lay the ice pack on top of the garment. Wrapping the ice pack with a wash cloth will prevent excess moisture from collecting on the support garment.
