When irrigating a colostomy how to position the iv standard?

Positioning the IV standard for a colostomy irrigation

1. Place the IV stand next to the bed on the patient’s non dominant side.

2. Make sure that the IV stand is stable and will not tip over.

3. Adjust the height of the IV stand so that the bag of irrigation solution is about 18 to 24 inches (45 to 60 cm) above the patient’s abdomen.

4. Hang the bag of irrigation solution from the IV stand.

5. Attach the tubing from the irrigation bag to the stoma.

Make sure that the tubing is not kinked or obstructed.
