Risk of Lipo Suction Surgery
Liposuction is performed on a variety of body areas. Hips, buttocks, thighs, abdominal flanks, back and chest are common areas for liposuction. However, liposuction carries risks and you should discuss this with your surgeon prior to having the procedure.-
Function
-
Liposuction removes fat from under the skin. Removing too much fat during a single liposuction procedure is dangerous. Liposuction is safer when performed in two or more sessions, if a large amount of fat is being removed.
Common Effects
-
Liposuction carries the same risks as most surgical procedures. Bruising, swelling and temporary numbness can occur after the liposuction procedure.
Serious Effects
-
Rare effects of liposuction that can occur are infections, bleeding, nerve injury, ulcerations, blood clot in the lungs, abdominal perforation and fluid collecting in the lungs.
Types
-
The type of liposuction performed can increase or decrease the associated risks. Tumescent liposuction is the safest because it uses local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. Tumescent liposuction uses small incisions that target areas with smaller instruments for less blood and fluid loss.
Considerations
-
Finding a qualified board certified plastic surgeon to perform your liposuction will reduce your risks of complications and increase your odds of a successful procedure.
