Pixel Therapy for Skin

We may associate pixels with our computers and similar technology, but the "pixel" of pixel therapy is actually a laser device that's used in cosmetic procedures. Reportedly, the pixel laser improves the quality and texture of skin, while also stimulating collagen production. The laser is FDA-approved and is said to be safe and effective. Those who receive treatments using the pixel laser report having firmer, smoother skin, especially around the eyes and mouth area, most commonly referred to as "laugh lines."
  1. The Facts

    • According to the Skin Care Institute, pixel therapy offers some of the best results in terms of skin resurfacing techniques and practices. Clients who've received pixel are said to experience very little discomfort and virtually no pain or downtime. As a matter of fact, it's a procedure that can be done very quickly and requires no extended stays. According to Dr. Jeff Alexander of the Skin Care Institute, it takes about three to five sessions over the course of two-to-four weeks in order to achieve firmer, smoother, more youthful-looking skin.

    Function

    • The pixel laser functions very similarly to other laser treatments; the pixel laser produces a laser beam that splits into microscopic beams that produce a tiny dot (hence the name) that treats the affected areas of the skin. These microscopic beams are often referred to as MicroThermal Zones (MTZs), which penetrate deep into the skin and destroy the old cells. Each MTZ the laser targets and treats leaves the surrounding tissue areas unaffected, which enables the skin to heal quickly and create new, healthy tissue in place of the damaged MTZs.

    Misconceptions

    • Although pixel therapy is believed to be somewhat painless, it's important to realize that the laser is literally boring tiny holes into your skin. Eventually, your appearance may look great, but immediately afterwards your skin will feel very tight and look badly sunburned. This can last for up to seven days and often includes swelling, which can last for three days. Not only that, but you're likely to experience moderate skin peeling for up to two weeks after the procedure, as this is your skin's way of healing itself.

    Benefits

    • Pixel therapy isn't just used to remove or lessen the appearance of wrinkles on the face. Anyone who is suffering from bad skin complexion, texture or tone, or who has old acne scars on any part of their body can be treated using pixel therapy.

    Expert Insight

    • According to Dr. Jacob Rispler, the founder of the Laser & Dermatology Institute (LDI), each patient has different skin conditions, skin types, and skin tones, which is why each patient will react differently to different lasers. It's very important that individual treatment is tailored to the patient's needs and according to their progress and reaction to each treatment.
