Facelift Alternatives

Plastic surgery requires advanced surgical skill and expertise, and according to the Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery, the average cost of a facelift is between $6,000 and $15,000. This cost consists of an anesthesia fee, a facility fee and a surgeon's fee as well as follow-up. Many women consider alternative options to having a facelift.
  1. Facial Exercises

    • Facial exercises are a natural attempt to eliminate sagging skin and prevent the need for a face lift. According to Natural Living For Women, "Face exercises are thought to help tone and tighten while enlarging the muscles and promoting the production of collagen along with providing increased blood circulation." This method requires women to practice up to 15 minutes of facial exercises a day, depending on the program chosen.

    Botox Cosmetic

    • Botox Cosmetic was introduced in 2002. It is a botulinum toxin approved by the FDA that is injected into the muscles of the face. Botox Cosmetic boasts that this prescription medicine is "used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in people 18-65 years of age for a short period of time." Botox Cosmetic must be administered regularly to prevent the appearance of wrinkles.

    Wrinkle Creams

    • Wrinkle creams contain ingredients that may improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Look for these ingredients: Retinol, hydroxy acids, Coenzyme Q10, copper peptides, Kinetin, and tea extracts. According to the Mayo Clinic, these ingredients may result in "modest improvements in wrinkles." Also, to prevent the appearance of wrinkles day-to-day, protect your skin from the sun by using products with built-in sunscreen, use moisturizers and don't smoke.

    Laser Face Lift

    • Laser face lift is a procedure where a carbon dioxide laser removes areas of skin that are damaged and wrinkled. This helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without lifting the face. It focuses on the "prone" areas around the eyes and the mouth. Laser face lift boasts that the benefits of the procedure compared to face lifts is that there is very little bleeding and minimal post-surgery discomfort.
