Restylane Injection Procedures

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid (HA)-based, FDA-approved dermal filler. HA is a naturally occuring substance in your body. Restylane injections--which are relatively painless, and last up to 12 months--smooth wrinkles, frown lines, correct volume loss or even plump your lips for total facial rejuvenation.
  1. Treatment

    • Inquire about Restylane injections for wrinkle correction from a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. During your consultation, your doctor will explain what's possible to correct or enhance. When it's time for your treatment your face is cleansed, photographed and marked for injection sites. A topical anesthetic is applied and remains on your face about 40 minutes to take effect. Expect minimal discomfort from the injections. Injections take about 30 minutes depending on the amount of correction needed.

    Injection Techniques

    • Four basic patterns of injection are used with Restylane. The linear technique injects Restylane into the skin in a single thread. The serial puncture technique involves multiple injections in a straight line. The fanning technique threads Restylane from one injection site to produce a triangular shape. The cross-hatching technique of multiple injections in a cross thread produces a square shape. Your doctor will use some or all of these techniques to achieve the aesthetic correction or enhancement you want.

    After Restylane Injections

    • After treatment you'll experience swelling and redness at the injection sites, and ice will be applied to your face for the swelling. Itching and tenderness may also occur after treatment. You should not touch treatment areas and avoid intense heat like sun exposure,or extreme cold.
