  1. Get Well After Facelift Surgery

    • 1

Arrange for a family member or friend to drive you home from the doctor's office or hospital following surgery. You won't be able operate a vehicle due to the anesthesia you'll be given during the procedure.

    • 2

Ask someone to stay with you during the first 2 days after the facelift surgery. You will need someone to bring you food and drinks and make sure you get your pain medication on time.

    • 3

Sleep with your head elevated by extra pillows or in a recliner. This will also help to reduce your swelling.

    • 4

Expect to experience some pain, swelling and numbness of the face during the first few days. Know that these are normal symptoms, but be aware of any sudden changes in your condition.

    • 5

Eat lightly before taking your pain medication, as you may become nauseous otherwise. Drink plenty of fluids, as doing so will help to reduce your swelling.

    • 6

Avoid strenuous activity, including exercise, heavy cleaning and sexual activity, during the first few weeks. Rest as much as possible to make sure you recover as easily as possible and without causing any further bleeding or swelling.

    • 7

Do not take any medications that are not prescribed by your doctor without consulting her first. Taking aspirin, ibuprofen and other over-the-counter medications may cause your blood to thin, increasing your risk for hematoma.

    • 8

You will have bandages or gauze around your head and neck to help heal any bruises and swelling. Do not remove these bandages even if they are uncomfortable. Keep the bandages dry until your doctor tells you it is okay to shower or bathe with them.

    • 9

Attend all of your follow-up appointments with your doctor. Several appointments may be necessary to ensure that there are no complications after your surgery. Your doctor will remove any stitches or staples during these appointments when appropriate.
