What is gastric mucosal?
Gastric mucosa is the lining of the stomach that is responsible for protecting the stomach from the acidic environment and producing enzymes necessary for digestion. It consists of several layers of cells that include epithelial cells, lamina propria, and muscularis mucosae. The epithelial cells form a barrier that protects the stomach from the harsh acidic environment and allows for the absorption of nutrients. The lamina propria contains blood vessels, immune cells, and glands that secrete mucus and digestive enzymes. The muscularis mucosae is a thin layer of muscle that helps to move food through the stomach.
