Biomet History
-
Biomet has been in operation since 1977. It has grown from a fledgling business with only a few thousand dollars in yearly sales to a multi-billion dollar enterprise. Headquartered in Warsaw, Indiana, their operations span the globe. Since their products are used in more than 1 million patients annually, they have one of the most-tested product lines in the orthopedic market and an almost spotless record for safety and reliability.
Biomet Features
-
The Biomet orthopedic line is designed to be used by surgeons, including specialty tapers for easy muscle attachment, and durable titanium alloys for a long life. In addition, they are made to be compatible with other surgical replacement systems, if needed.
Possible Complications
-
While the primary complications of hemiarthroplasty are usually related to the surgery, there are some concerns related to the prosthesis itself. Possible complications include allergic reactions, further bone fracture or degradation, limb shortening, joint dislocation and/or accelerated wear of joint tissues.
