What is the recovery time after having shoulder replacement surgery?

Phase 1: Early recovery

- This phase lasts from surgery to 6 weeks after surgery.

- During this phase:

- You will wear a sling to keep your shoulder immobilized.

- You will do exercises to help you regain range of motion in your shoulder.

- You will receive pain medication to help you manage pain.

Phase 2: Continued recovery

- This phase lasts from 6 weeks to 4 months after surgery.

- During this phase:

- You will continue to do exercises to help you regain range of motion in your shoulder.

- You will continue to receive pain medication as needed.

- You will start to use your arm for light activities, such as cooking or driving.

Phase 3: Full recovery

- This phase lasts from 4 months to 1 year after surgery.

- During this phase:

- You will continue to do exercises to help you regain range of motion in your shoulder.

- You will be able to use your arm for all activities, including sports.

- You will be able to stop taking pain medication.
