How to Stop My Period
A menstrual cycle, or period, is Mother Nature's way of allowing women to monitor their reproductive health. During puberty, most girls develop a menstrual cycle, indicating their fertility. This cycle occurs once a month for up to forty years. For one reason or another, a woman may desire to stop her period from occurring. Depending on her age and lifetime goals, there are a few options that can block a menstrual cycle from occurring.Things You'll Need
- Gynecologist
- Birth control

1
Visit a gynecologist for a pelvic exam, and ask for a pap smear while you are there. This exam and lab work will confirm the health of your reproductive organs and allow the doctor to explore options for stopping your period.

2
If you want to stop your period for a short time, ask for a prescription for birth control. Some birth control brands allow a woman to have only four periods each year, extending the length of time between cycles. However, this may not be a good option if you want to have children soon.

3
If you desire children in the immediate future, consider becoming pregnant. Pregnancy usually delays a period for nine months. Women who breastfeed their infants often can extend that by several months.

If you want a more permanent option and do not want children in the future, ask your doctor if you are a candidate for a hysterectomy. This surgical procedure assures that you will have no more periods. When a hysterectomy is performed the uterus is removed from the body entirely, making it impossible to reproduce. If you are a candidate, discuss the decision to have a hysterectomy with loved ones before scheduling the surgery, as this is a permanent approach.

If medical intervention and pregnancy are not an option, wait for nature to take its course. All women go through menopause, a time when fertility slows and eventually comes to a halt. Menstrual cycles usually stop at this time on their own. Menopause usually takes place when a woman is in her forties or fifties, though some women are surprised by early menopause.
