Do you need rhogam after placenta accreta with hysterectomy?
The answer is No.
Rhogam, or Rh immune globulin, is a medication that is used to prevent Rh disease in pregnant women who are Rh-negative. Rh disease is a condition in which a mother's immune system attacks her fetus's red blood cells because the fetus is Rh-positive.
Placenta accreta is a condition in which the placenta grows too deeply into the wall of the uterus. This can cause serious complications, such as bleeding and infection. Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure in which the uterus is removed.
If a woman has placenta accreta and a hysterectomy, she will not need Rhogam because her uterus has been removed and she will no longer be able to become pregnant.
