Do you have to a pap smear after hyterectomy?

In general no. A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the uterus. The cervix, which is the opening to the uterus and is the site where pap smears are taken, may also be removed during a hysterectomy. If the cervix is removed, pap smears are no longer necessary as there is no longer an opening to the upper reproductive tract. Some doctors will suggest that if only your uterus has been removed and the cervix is left intact, you should continue with pap smear screening until you reach age 65.
